OK, for my third visit to OBS in three weeks (Feb 15, Feb 21, and now March 1), I have a few better photos to post. I ran home last week, partly to see the family, and partly (as far as this blog is concerned, anyway) to grab my spotting scope and digiscope setup. My DSLR is great for nearby birds, but get any distance away, as waterfowl and wading birds usually are, and it has very little chance of taking a good picture. But with the digiscope, I can get pretty darn close to the birds, optically speaking, and as soon as I can figure out a better focusing method, I should have many more pictures to post. Here are the few good shots I got today:
The birding today was pretty good. A bit windy, but there are some areas along the road that are sheltered from the wind, but that still provide clear views of the water. And so, thanks to my trusty spotting scope, I was able to get good looks at the Garganey (Anas querquedula) that I “saw” through binoculars last week. Unfortunately, the bird was a bit too active for me to get a good picture; I hope to have better luck on Tuesday, my last day in India for a while.
Other “good” birds today, seen but not photographed, were Eurasian Spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia), Eurasian Wigeon (Anas penelope), and Grey Francolin (Francolinus pondicerianus). I suspect that there were Greater Flamingoes and Painted Storks way out on the far side of the wetlands, but I made that trek last week, and wasn’t up to doing it today.

Hi Ben,
It’s fun to follow your camera around. Thanks for the posts. I was doing research on Twitter and found these photos you might enjoy.
