Ospreys (Pandion haliaetus) are amazing birds. They occur almost worldwide, and wherever they occur (freshwater lakes, brackish lagoons, saltwater estuaries) they are the only raptor that plunge dives to catch live fish as its main prey source. The birds typically dive after hovering in place over their prey’s location, which affords novice wildlife photographers excellent opportunities for imaging; the pros are able to capture the plunge dives themselves. Someday!
