November’s full moon:
The moon was near apogee (which occurred back on the 8th of November) so the details are a teensy bit smaller than they would be otherwise. After all, it’s 403 998 km distant in this shot, as opposed to the perigee moon that’s only some 357 000 km away. And there were some high clouds interfering with my exposure. Nevertheless, ’tis a beautiful moon, isn’t it? Farmer’s Almanac calls this the Beaver moon; I’ve also seen Hunter’s, Frost, Snow, and Tree.
Ain’t too many beavers in Palm Beach County (although there are some in the northern part of the state), and very little frost or snow this far south, either. Plenty of trees, though, and plenty of hunters, so we can call this Hunter’s or Tree moon without damaging local pride too far.
In point of fact, though, only the year-round hunting seasons are running right now. That means our south Florida huntes (in FWC zone A) can take rabbit, wild hog, raccoon, opossum, coyote, beaver, skunk, and nutria, but not deer, turkey, or quail. Of course, those seasons run year-round, so that’s not saying much. But Saturday quail season starts, and next Saturday is the start of the deer and second fall turkey season, so that should be fun for those who like shootin’ at things.
Me, I shoot with a camera. Here’s my bag of full moons dating back to December 2009:
