Some friends of ours have a timeshare on Sanibel Island, over on the west coast of Florida, near Fort Myers. It’s the home of the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, one of the most amazing places to see birds and other wildlife in south Florida. And we drove all the way across Alligator Alley, over the causeway, through the woods, and never made it to the refuge! But still, a good time was had by all. See the photo gallery below.
Eric has turned into a very good traveler, particularly when Mom sits in back to help out when boredom or travel fatigue set in. She can usually coax a smile out of the little lad…
A few highlights of the trip: a beautiful sunrise, Eric’s first encounter with sand (sadly, no camera in hand), and a pair of Magnificent Frigatebirds soaring over the beach on a lazy Sunday morning. Eric was absolutely mindboggled by the sand; he kept trying to crush it in his GI Joe kungfu grip, but since it didn’t mush down (compress) or mush together (adhere), he was stymied. It was interesting to watch the little gears working in his mind as he tried to reorder his mental universe to take this new matter into account.
Spending nice mornings on the screened porch gave us an idea for what we need to add to the house. Too bad we can’t add the beach view as well!
