There’s a little town on the Oregon coast called Cannon Beach. Presumably a cannon was found there at some point, I don’t know. The beaches are pretty nice, though. This one is Indian Beach, inside Ecola Park (that name comes from the local tribe’s name for whale back in 1806 when William Clark (of Lewis & Co. fame) went searching there for a white beached whale.)
Anyone who knows this part of the country is probably shocked by the blue sky in that photo. Most of the day was, in fact, overcast, drizzly, and even downright foggy. But from time to time, as you can see, the sun did poke through.
If you’d like to visit the beaches, try to look up the tides beforehand. On our visit, we arrived at high tide, so tidepooling wasn’t really an option. And several hasty retreats needed to be beaten to avoid wetting our pants getting our pants wet:
