Since I’ve been unable to access my own dang website (thanks a lot, BellSouth!), I forgot to mention: Eric started cutting teeth last Friday. He’d been an unusually light eater all week, and had extra drool, coughs, etc. Classic signs of a cold, which we assumed (and still suspect) he had. But they’re also classic signs of teething, and Friday night, when he was screaming and unconsolable for several hours, starting at 11 p.m., we finally hit upon the simple expedient of putting our fingers in his mouth. And sure enough, two very sharp ridges on the lower gum line are now poking through.
So, a little Tylenol, a little Oragel (which we’ve since discontinued, because he actually does have a cold, and we don’t want to numb the back of his throat, which disables the gag reflex and cough reflex), and a little judicious rocking by Dad, and he was finally able to sleep for a couple of hours.
So this Labor Day weekend, which was already scheduled to be long, has been even longer, what with the late-night feedings and soothings, the “I’m the Baby Boy Who Will Not Sleep” days, and whatnot. We can’t wait to be past this developmental milestone; “they” say we’ll have about 4 weeks before the next round of teething begins…
