This week we had the wildest weather–uncounted inches of rain fell on the homestead here in Boca. (I say uncountable because my lovely rain gauge went on the fritz a couple of months ago, so the only weather data I have is temperature. Grrr!) Along with the weather we had some serious wind, which caused a bit of damage to our wax myrtles and a few other shrubs. It wasn’t the wind itself that caused the damage, but the heavy fronds from the palm trees that blew into them. Still, it wasn’t much work to bring out the clippers and make everything nice and neat (or as neat as it gets in this place) again.
I like having a leisurely Saturday; they’re getting rarer as the boy is getting older, and as Christmas draws nearer. You can see things like this, for instance:
Not that I saw this flower today, of course; it’s from last Sunday, but the principle applies: You can always see something nice when you’re outside. I don’t remember, if I ever did know, quite what this flower is, but it’s pretty, and that’s what counts. Enjoy!
UPDATE: Paged through my Bell & Taylor and saw that I had indeed ID’ed this flower, earlier, thinking it was a Buchnera species, most likely Buchnera americana (there being no other species in the Florida Atlas of Vascular Plants…). But now that I look more closely, I’m pretty sure it’s NOT B. americana, so I’m back to saying “what the heck IS that thing?”
