This week at Fern Forest I’ve been seeing numerous individuals of a tiny butterfly that I haven’t seen before. This weekend I finally got a minute to myself to look it up in my butterfly books, but here’s a peek at what I’ve been seeing:
Yesterday and today, I haven’t had my camera with me, so this blurry photo from Wednesday, which I took while yakking on the cell phone, will have to do. It’s a very small butterfly, probably about an inch across all told, but it doesn’t have the body plan of any skipper I know (as if I know a ton of them!). It looks to my untrained eye most like a Fulvous Hairstreak (Electrostrymon angelia), but I need a better photo to be sure.
Here’s another curious fellow I photographed on Wednesday. If I’d had my camera yesterday, I’m sure I’d have gotten a much better photo…
