I’ve been out in the yard a bit more lately, now that things at my day job have quieted down a little bit. I’ve been trying to trap the gophers that keep adding mounds and holes to the obstacle course that is our front yard. While doing so, I often have my camera handy, because, well, without it, how could I take pictures? Yesterday I saw a Red-tailed Hawk checking to see whether any of the holes I don’t have gopher traps in might have actual gophers in them. And today a California Quail was calling (chi-CAW-go) insistently enough to wake me from my midmorning nap (I love Saturdays), so I had to take its picture. And while I was out, I also found a little green bee foraging on the goldenrod; I suspect she is in the genus Agapostemon, but even if she is, I don’t know anyone who can ID her to the species level. Can you?
