I often say that the reason Red-tailed Hawks have such good eyesight is so they can tell when I have my camera and when I don’t, and they vary their distance to me accordingly. Today, though, I was able to dash inside and grab my camera and get back outside while the hawk was still relatively close (soaring over the neighbor’s field rather than my own, but that’s pretty close).
